Interview #35 - Essential Mama Co.
Welcome back to another week, another blog, another business! On a side note, what do you all think of that slogan? Think I should keep it or change it, let me know in the comments below.
These coming weeks are beginning to look busier as each day passes by, with exams coming up in the next few weeks and the end of the study period nearing, I will be sure to continue with regular uploads. However, soon after, Business Anthropi will be undertaking a lot of changes that you will definitely want to stay updated to see! Now, on with the blog post. I am very happy to be posting this one as I have had this interview in the files for a while and am really looking forward to you to read about this business.
I had the pleasure of finding out more about the recently re-branded business of Essential Mama Co. They are a business that specialises in aromatherapy products, essential oils and diffuser with the goal of sharing the amazing benefits of the products they sell to women who need them most. The beautiful designs of the products that have been trialled and tested to make sure that everything that is sold allows for recovery of the body, soul and mindfulness. Now to introduce the fine owner of the business…
MEET SAMANTHA!
Otherwise known as Sami (hence the name), Samantha opened the store officially in December of 2018 and has since been able to make a name for herself in the community. There was a time before starting the business where Samantha had major life changes that would affect her outlook forever. After being ill very suddenly and feeling fed up with what was being given to her, she turned to essential oils for extra support, on top of what medications she was taking. By adding them into her daily routine with the chance that they could support her extra needs that weren’t being fulfilled. By doing so, she and her family noticed a positive change in her emotional health and moods, soon after, everything that once was with Samantha fell back into place.
This allowed her to get into the world of aromatherapy and showcase and share her passion of essential oils and jewellery that works for the better.
Her main inspiration for getting Essential Mama Co. up and running is her family. With her three children and husband behind her all the way, they allow her to be the backbone that helps run the message and meaning behind the business and many more. When Samantha started feeling better from changing her daily habits, her motivation came back and she was very thrilled to be able to share what she knows and learnt along the way with anyone who is willing to listen. And I hope that this blog highlights some of this and what the business is all about, it’s more than money and full of heart and soul. Samantha hopes that the customers are able to find a feeling of warmth and comfort when shopping and knowing that as a fellow mother, that quality and beautiful products are essential.
Initially, when starting the business, Samantha decided to start selling with essential oils and to set up an online store and showcase them in local market stalls. She took the time to do the research that was necessary to do this and to be able to take the time to do it right. Not only with the website and selling aspect of things, but Samantha also wouldn’t want to sell a product if she knows it’s not at 100%. Through trial and error and with a strong gut sense to know whether it is right or wrong led by her instincts, along with the very popular opinions of her kids, if it doesn’t live up to the standards, it won’t be stocked. Samantha is all about being able to use her platform to support small Aussie businesses when stocking some her products and ingredients, but more specifically, women-led businesses and being able to empower women to make something of their own. She took the time to understand the market and know what was needed and how to know if something suits the vibe of her store. Just take a look at the Rose Quartz Crystal Face Roller, she knew straight away that this was the right feeling to have.
What tips would you give to someone starting their own business?
“Reach out for the help and support you need. I am not tech-savvy at all. I did manage to set up a basic online store on my own but have recently decided to get someone in there to give it a much-needed makeover. Someone well informed me of SEO’s, email campaigns and much more!”
Essential Mama Co. in the eyes of Samantha, is something that makes her happy, which is how she knew that this was the one thing to pursue above all else. By participating with the face to face interactions at markets earlier in the business life, through networking and being able to work from home with the loving support of her family. By going through the life-changing experience earlier on, this has changed her outlook on life and has allowed her business to be an inspiration to those who need that extra support.
With each individual product being unique in its own way, especially the diffuser jewellery, which I find is absolutely incredible in its innovative idea and design, this allows for the individualised experience that each customer has with their purchase. With the eagerness of feedback from customers, she hopes that Essential Mama Co. provides those with the peace and comfort that they deserve. By providing to those who are looking for a gift and more specifically mothers, these are products who are looking for that something special as an escape from the stresses of everyday life.
Just like the products being sold, the name of Essential Mama Co. has a very sweet inspiration behind it. When thinking of the name (previously being known as Essential Mama Sami before re-brand), she took inspiration from her family and her passion. When her kids were just learning to talk, they would always say mama before every saying either mummy or mum which provides a cute, sentimental connotation and finally essential being a play on words for essential oils. In the end, the idea of the combination of the name Essential Mama Co. just sat right and Samantha quickly fell in love with it.
How would you describe your business in one sentence?
The Essential Mama Co. is a place of pure, gentle, quality products, each one hand-selected with love by one Mama for another.
